What is a telehandler used for?

When it comes to moving heavy loads, one of the most efficient pieces of plant equipment used on a broad variety of sites is a telehandler. A telehandler is used for handling and lifting materials to high points. From construction sites to farms, these machines make invaluable additions and streamline onsite projects. With our large fleet of construction spec Manitou telehandlers available here at Ace Plant, we are here to explain the basics of these machines and their different uses.

Lifting a variety of loads

Whether your project involves palletised loads, timber, packaged goods or concrete, bulky goods often need to be lifted to a variety of heights to complete the task. At Ace Plant, some of our telehandlers are capable of withstanding up to 4 tonnes of weight, with maximum weight loads dependent on factors such as load type and boom angle. To determine your telehandler’s maximum weight capacity, always consult the manufacturer’s specification, or get in touch and we can help.

Movement across difficult terrains

From manufacturing plants to construction sites, loads are frequently required to be moved across difficult terrains. With a robust design, traction tires, and 4 wheel drive, telehandlers are built to withstand challenging environments, able to climb hills and move over rocky surfaces. Their versatility means that safety is improved on-site: jobs can be completed more efficiently and therefore time is saved on projects. Telehandlers are also designed with difficult settings in mind, such as featuring pressurised cabins for dusty environments.

Varying height reach

Telehandlers feature an extendable boom, enabling them to lift loads to heights otherwise difficult to reach. From our Manitou MT420H (excellent for use on small jobs or tight spaces with a lift height of 4 metres) to our Manitou MT1840 (ideal for high rise work sites with a lift height of 18 metres), our range of telehandlers are designed to suit a borad variety of height requirements.

Telehandler attachments

A key feature of the telehandler is its ability to connect to attachments, such as general-purpose buckets, fork extensions, tipping skips, and hook attachments. These extensions allow for multifunctional usage, enabling them to handle a wider range of objects for different tasks. For example, fork extensions are invaluable for stillage or pallets that are too large for 4ft standard tines. Meanwhile, for debris that needs collecting and decanting into a larger skip, tipping skips make an ideal attachment choice. With our high-quality range of attachments available to hire, we can help advise you which is best to fit onto your machine.
