Located in the heart of Leicester, AR Aggregates’ Urban Quarry is an advanced aggregate recycling plant operated by AR Demolition. This facility transforms waste materials from demolition projects—both from AR Demolition and external companies—into high-quality recycled aggregates, promoting sustainability in the construction industry.
Minimising dust emissions for a cleaner environment
Surrounded by an industrial estate, railway, and residential areas (within 200 meters), the Urban Quarry prioritises effective dust management to minimise airborne particles, especially during the summer months.
While the facility is equipped with a built-in, dust suppression system, additional measures were needed to enhance water coverage and reduce dust dispersion.
How the Ace Plant Quick Spray improves dust control
To further optimize dust suppression, AR Aggregates tested the Ace Plant Quick Spray as a demonstration unit. This system was quickly integrated into their operations:
- Seamless integration – The Quick Spray unit features built-in fork sleeves, allowing it to be attached to AR Aggregates’ existing machinery by replacing the bucket with fork tines.
- Hydraulically powered efficiency – Using third-service hydraulics, the unit operates a carbon fiber spinning disc, which atomizes water into a fine mist, effectively trapping airborne and surface dust.
- Enhanced reach and flexibility – The unit can be lifted to height for superior dust suppression over stockpiles and machinery.
Positive feedback from AR Aggregates
Darren Thompson, manager of AR Aggregates’ Urban Quarry, praised the Quick Spray system for its efficiency and ease of use. He explained, "It can be lifted to height easily to atomize water over stockpiles and machinery." He also highlighted its simple operation, stating, "It's easy to pick up, connect up, and quick to get water down." Overall, he considers the Quick Spray system "a good addition to our built-in system."
Commitment to sustainability and efficiency
AR Aggregates remains committed to sustainable recycling practices and effective dust control solutions, ensuring a cleaner and more environmentally responsible approach to aggregate processing.
